MULTI-LAYER WOOD CORE

Völkl freeskiing models feature a multi-layer wood core with two different densities of wood. In the binding attachment area, a dense, ash core is used, while in the rest of the ski, the core is poplar. The more dense wood creates secure screw retention and stability, while the softer poplar section allows for resilience and snap. The flex pattern can be tailored to each ski model to match the desired performance characteristics.

EXTENDED SENSORWOOD CORE

Created in a complex CNC milling process, the Extended Sensorwood Core is ‘extended’ upward and lengthwise, milled to form the chambers of the Dual XTD Transmission construction. The material is a blend of poplar and beech wood, and is found in Völkl’s highest performing models.

SENSORWOOD CORE

Like the Extended Sensorwood Core, the Sensorwood core is CNC milled using vertically laminated poplar and beech wood.

EXTENDED WOODCORE

The Extended (XTD) Wood Core is used in XTD Progressive constructions. More forgiving than the Extended Sensorwood Core, it consists an solid central section that extends toward the tip and tail.

DUAL WOODCORE

As the name suggests, The Dual Wood Core consists of  parallel strips of wood  surrounded by PU. Featured in the XTD Progressive construction, it is layered with extra glass sheets top and bottom for added ski rebound.

XTRA LIGHT CORES

In the new V-Werks and Essenza series, along with the Backcountry series, our Xtralight wood cores are created using lighter weight Pawlonia material, along with channels milled out of the bottom of the core. Snappy and resilient, these hight tech wood cores save weight while improving performance.

XTD Progessive Technology

Both the normal [RTM 75] or dual woodcore [RTM 75is] versions have a unique 3D design which stabilizes the front of the ski body and transmits forces toward the ski’s center for a comfortable ride. For a tip rocker construction this translates into the stability needed for higher speeds without making turns any less gentle to initiate. At the end of the turn the classically cambered tail provides a clean arc for the curve to follow. The SENSOR models are coincidentally also produced based on this construction principle.

Dual XTD Transmission Sidewall

A light but highly stable full rocker shape, paired with an extra wide longitudinal reinforcement above the ski deck. The reinforcement belts are aligned to channel stress toward the outside of the ski. This works with the sidewall construction to prevent chatter and ensure that the necessary pressure is applied to the edges at high speeds.

POWERED BY TITANIUM

The top-of-the-line models in the VÖLKL Alpine ski range boast a special wood core tuning system - all powered by titanium. Above and below the XTD Sensor Wood Core or XTD Wood Core, there is a layer of titanium reinforcing the ski and adding power and stability. The thin yet extremely strong aluminium alloy extends its unparalleled dampening properties particularly at high speeds.

TOUGH BOX CONSTRUCTION

Tough Box Construction features a multi-layered wood core wrapped with a composite/fiberglass sheath to create the ultimate resilience and snap for Völkl’s freeskiing models. Surrounding the core in the mid-body of the ski, it adds snap, strength and binding screw retention.

POWER CONSTRUCTION

Völkl’s longest-running construction, Power Construction utilizes traditional vertical sidewalls and a torsion box internal layup. Used in racing skis as well as all the freeskiing models, this versatile, proven construction provides tremendous grip, stability, and a smooth ride.

FULL ROCKER

WHAT IT IS:

A smooth, gradual bend from tip to tail, with matching sidecut and flex.

WHAT IT DOES:

Extended Low Profile (ELP) gives the skier all the benefits of added maneuverability in soft snow while also delivering smooth, graceful arcs on groomed terrain. How? By matching the flex and sidecut with the full rocker (long, gradual bend from tip to tail) profile, the skier gains full, uninterrupted edge contact. The more you put the ski on edge, the more effective the edge becomes. The resulting smoothness and predictability is truly uncanny.

TIP&TAIL ROCKER

WHAT IT IS:

A slight rocker bend in the tip and tail, complemented by traditional camber under foot.

WHAT IT DOES:

With a slight rocker in the tip and tail, combined with a classic camber profile under the foot, Völkl engineers have created the ideal blend for frontside carving. Easy, smooth turn entry and exit, with acceleration and rebound as well. While not as maneuverable in soft snow as our full rocker designs, this rocker design works well on hard snow or in the park and pipe.

Tip&tail Rocker

TIP ROCKER

WHAT IT IS:

An early-rise tip design.

WHAT IT DOES:

The combination of an early rise tip and a classic camber profile in the rest of the ski provides easy, smooth turn entry regardless of conditions. In softer snow the ski is incredibly forgiving, floats better, and requires less energy to ride. New for 2012-13, Völkl has added Tip Rocker to its Junior line of skis, giving kids a new level of learning proficiency and turning ease.

FULL CAMBER

WHAT IT IS:

A traditional camber line.

WHAT IT DOES:

Skiers can still enjoy the feel of traditional camber. While not as silky-smooth as a rockered ski, full camber provides stability and acceleration for skiers wanting a more classic ride quality.

V-WERKS LESS (WEIGHT) IS MORE (PERFORMANCE)

V-Werks - the Power of Perfection

When Völkl engineers are given free reign to produce the ultimate performance, they often come up with some staggering ideas for premium product. The V-WERKS collection expands for next season with the new Katana V-WERKS, quite simply the most technically advanced powder ski on the market.

V-WERKS continues to focus on 3 key construction technologies:

  • A Metal-Tex Hybrid construction featuring a combination of titanal  fused with carbon fiber.
  • A Motion iPT ‘Hollow-Tech‘ binding interface area - created to deliver the ultimate power transmission and light weight.
  • An Xtra-Light Wood Core that features new materials for light weight and resilience.

PROGRESSIVE TECHNOLOGY

Völkl’s game improvement rocker design features an early rise in the tip combined with a softer tail section. Added to more models for 11/12, Progressive technology gives the intermediate to advanced skier the best of both worlds: ease of turn entry, smooth ride quality from the rockered tip, and easy comfortable turn exit thanks to the softer tail section. All these characteristics contribute to less fatigue, allowing the improving skier greater enjoyment.

BIO-LOGIC TECHNOLOGY

Improved dynamics, less effort, easier turning and improved protection for the knee joint – that is BIO-LOGIC.

The project was kicked off by a study showing that women are much more likely to injure their knees while skiing then men. Not because they ski differently, but because their anatomy reacts more sensitively to strains. Working closely with renowned doctors and athletes, our Attiva team succeeded in engineering BIO-LOGIC to improve the skiing experience while also cutting down on extreme strains. The knee is subjected to reduced stress levels, with more refined and balanced activation of the leg musculature.

BIO LOGIC xtraLIGHT
Bio-Logic has again been successfully improved for the coming season. The integration of the tip rocker in combination with sidecuts that have been individually reconfigured for each model, and an extra-light woodcore, reinforce the positive skiing performance of the construction, and noticeably elevate them to an entirely new level for everyone.
